It was chilly this morning so I decided to wear this coat I got a few weeks back. I was browsing the racks at a local thrift store and I usually check the coat racks during my searching. I was feeling all the sleeves to find a soft coat and stopped at this thicker wool coat. I checked the tag and saw that it was a gorgeous J.Crew wool coat...in my size! It was in impeccable condition and the back had a split tail which I adored. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better--it did! The coat was only $9.99. Score!

I decided to wear this bright skirt with a fuchsia top to play off the neon colors in the tweed skirt. I liked the unexpected fun colors under the black coat; I added black tights with simple pumps for a classier look.

My brother in-law got married this weekend and it was the perfect occasion to wear this pretty Alice+Olivia sequined peplum dress. I found it on Ebay about a year ago and I've been so excited to wear it. I was drawn to the olive color, festive look, and the fact that it was a peplum dress! I tried to compliment the sequins on the bust with different metals in my accessories; a pair of metallic t-strap pumps that are very YSL-esque and chic, a silver cuff and clutch, and pretty darker silver earrings.

The wedding was such a gorgeous event and I'm blessed to have such a lovely new sister!

Sorry for my lack of posting, I've been so busy lately.

I fell in love with this blouse the moment I saw it: it's a beautiful chiffon material and has lovely mint polka dots all over it. I especially love the shoulder cut outs; I feel so feminine wearing this blouse :)

It was almost 80 degrees out yesterday...definitely a white pants day! I had some work to get done so I decided to do it poolside-best decision EVER. So relaxing.

I had a class field trip to the Asian Art Museum in the city today and figured it was the perfect day to wear this lovely hat! Today was sunny and warm so I opted for a bright blouse and a neon belt. The top is actually a PJ top/bathing suit coverup- but I prefer to wear it as a blouse :) It's probably one of my favorite shirts ever: it's seafoam and has skulls...I adore both! While doing my usual thrifting, I discovered these amazing pumps for only $6! I've been wanting a pair of pointy toed pumps and these were perfect. I especially like the smaller heel because I can wear them to school. I decided to be cliche and wear red for Valentine's Day, mainly because of these heels. I added my chunky gold necklace, skinny jeans, and a bright red blouse to finish the look.

My Valentine's Day consisted of a day full of classes with a coffee date snuck in between :)

If you haven't noticed, printed pants are HUGE this season. From bold floral printed pants to luxe leopard denim, this style is a fun take on a normally basic piece. By far my favorite print has been leopard; I fell in love with the Current and Elliot leopard stiletto jeans, until I saw the price tag. Fear not! I discovered these gems at Target while doing my usual browsing. They looked great in person and satisfied my longing for leopard pants. Thanks Target!

Ok. I know. I wear a lot of neutrals! I've always worn more neutrals than colors; I try to buy colors but I'm always drawn to more earthy tones. So I added a bright teal and orange watch to spice up the outfit a bit. I'm taking a few days off blogging to head to volunteer at a winter camp. So what that means is: no sleep, cold noses, crazy kids, snowballs, and amazing memories! Packing for winter weather was really hard for me, I'm used to California winter aka sandals, the occasional t shirt, and just maybe a dress with no tights, so this should be interesting.

Monday was our two year wedding anniversary! I wanted to wear something festive so this little leopard number was perfect! I really liked the cream color with the black leopard; I don't have very many opportunities to wear a fancier white dress since most events I go to are wedding related (and of course that is a huge no no), so I was excited I could finally wear it! I added some sandals with tights, a look I love, a pearl and chain bracelet for some class with edge, and a simple black blazer. The perfect outfit to start off another year (of marriage)!

I've been wanting to wear this vest for a while now and every time I tried it on, it just didn't look right. I found this cute flannel at the thrift store for only $2 and knew it would be perfect! The vest is so sparkly and fancy that I decided to dress it down a bit with a casual outfit. I added my Joe's Moto jeans, stacked some bracelets, and painted my nails with neons and sparkles :)

We had to take the pictures inside a parking garage because of the rain earlier. This should be an interesting week finding indoor places for pictures!

I wore this outfit to school today; I usually wear flats or boots because I do a lot of walking and like to be comfortable. I scored this cute top at Marshalls this weekend for $10. It's perfect for any season and has a cute print. Love it! Recognize my necklace? I tied a ribbon on my thrifted chunky gold necklace to add some length to it. I wore a basic cardigan, Taverniti ankle skinny jeans, and gold flats to finish my look!

With these daily fashion posts I've been wearing clothes I don't normally wear or I had in the back of my closet. I found this bright blouse at Marshalls a year ago for only $7! I was drawn to the striking red mixed with the purple and greige. I added a simple sweater from Forever21 (that I realized matched perfectly) and some flat boots for walking around campus. This was the perfect comfy outfit for a day of classes and labs!

I totally scored at the thrift store the other day! I found 3 lovely items: two posted above and one I'm currently altering :) I really like how flowy this skirt is. I had to hem it a bit and wanted to wear it high waisted. I added simple pumps and tights so they wouldn't take away from the skirt and because it was chilly. I wore a basic shirt and tied it in the middle, then added my chunky necklace for a finished look. This necklace may be my new favorite! It's really light and a softer gold so it's not too Mr. T-ish

Also I think my mint green nail polish looks beautiful with this outfit!

DIY Tree Stump Side Table

I fell in love with the stump side table from West Elm, just not with the big price tag. I figured it wouldn't be that difficult to make my own and I wanted to give it a try. Nick brought home a stump from his work and we waited for it to dry out, then the restoring/restyling began.

Supplies:

Stump

Crowbar and hammer (muscles would help too!)

Gloves

Sandpaper: 60,120,220 grit

Clear gloss and paintbrush (I posted a picture of the brand/type I used)

Furniture glides *Optional-if you want the stump to have a little lift from the ground

Directions

Let the stump dry out for a few weeks, if not already dried out.

Using the crowbar and hammer pull all bark off the outside of the stump. I lined the crowbar on the top and hammered till the bark would slowly separate from the stump. I flipped the stump upside down so the top wouldn't get messed up if I happened to chip some wood off in the process.

This stump should look like this after the bark is off.

After the bark is off you will want to sand the stump completely, till it is smooth.

It would be faster if you had a electric sander, but I did it all by hand!

I started with the 60 grit then the 120. I sanded until the stump was smooth enough to rub my hand against.

Gloss used for the stump

Wipe down any dust from sanding with a damp towel

I started painting the gloss at a knot in the wood so I would remember where I left off.

Let the gloss dry overnight

The gloss instructions said to sand with 220 grit after the first coat. I sanded it completely, then added the second and final coat. I let it dry overnight.

I used furniture glides to add some lift from the ground.

I lined them up and nailed them into the stump

Finished!

This was an easy and fun DIY that I'm excited to put in our house.

Also, I like my stump more than the West Elm version!

I finally gave into the leopard craze, which wasn't too hard because it's one of my favorite prints ever. I feel so glam when I wear leopard, even if it is just as an accent. Nick and I had a little movie date earlier, so I wanted to be a little dressier than usual and this off the shoulder sweater was the perfect fit! I accessorized with my leopard scarf (super warm), a rose gold cuff, and my neverfull.

The reason I'm laughing in the pictures is because someone I knew drove by, but I don't know them very well so it was really awkward and I looked completely vain having my husband take pictures of me on the side of the road. Oh well!

I bought this shirt at a thrift store a while back. I altered it last night and threw a sweater on over it to cover my bum because these pants have no pockets. I wanted to have a classier look on top to tone down the leather bottoms. I love these leather leggings because they're surprisingly comfortable, so warm, and under $25! I added some simple pumps and a sparkly wrap bracelet for some glam!

Lately it's been so warm! I wore this light aztec blouse with some skinny jeans and wedged booties, and since the sun was out I opted for no jacket/sweater today. Also I have to share what I found earlier because I'm beyond excited about it!

We were driving down the street to get coffee we took a different way home. I saw a beautiful anthropologie-esque wingback chair deserted on the side of the road. I wiped my drool and loaded my car. It is in impeccable condition and the only thing I need to do is redo the cushion. I love the nailhead detailing with the vintage floral print...and of course the price tag. Free :)

DIY Reversible Duvet Cover & Pillowcases

I really like duvets; duvets are simple items that really can change the look of your bedroom. The one problem is that they usually come with a hefty price tag. I fell in love with a fabric and continued to day-dream about the idea of making a duvet. I went in, found it on the clearance rack, and I decided to buy it. The moment they cut my fabric my stomach dropped..what was I getting myself into?! I was so intimidated by the large amount of fabric but was determined not to let it stop me from creating a beautiful duvet. It was way easier than I expected and I'm very happy with the results. My completed duvet with two matching pillowcases cost me just under $45 :)

Here's a tutorial explaining my process:

Supplies

1 flat queen size sheet (I chose white)

7 yards fabric: 6 for the duvet and 1 for the pillow cases

Matching thread, sewing machine, pins, seam ripper (just in case!), and patience.

Pillowcases

I used another pillowcase to trace the size. I sewed one long side together with the print side touching the other print side, creating a long piece of fabric.

Next I hemmed the end of the pillowcase. I measured a few inches in and pinned in place.

With the pillow case still inside out I sewed the other side together and then the bottom.

Trimmed the edges and repeated for the second pillowcase.

*Tip I studied a pillowcase I had at home. From that I was able to understand the stitches I needed and the basic size/shape.

Duvet Cover

I wanted my duvet size to be 86 x 94 inches and the fabric I bought was cut down to 92 x 100 inches. I wanted to have a lot of extra fabric just in case. I laid my fabric on top of a duvet to check the size and trimmed where needed.

*Tip if you want a easier route instead of measuring fabric you can sew two flat sheets together. Most designers actually use the same fabric for their sheets and duvets!

I fell in love with this ikat fabric, the print made it a little harder but not impossible! Luckily you can see the faint stripes going down lengthwise. My goal was to line them up to create a seamless seam.

I had two pieces of identical fabric the width of the picture below. The two side panels were made from cutting the one piece in half.

I laid out the fabric how to check the size and began to pin to create the top of my duvet

Checking before making a quick stitch

After stitching a quick simple stitch, I trimmed before feeding the fabric through again using a sturdier stitch.

After the three panels are sewn together I made a hem similar to the pillow cases, this is where you will feed your comforter through, this will be the bottom of your duvet. I'm planning on putting buttons on mine. You can use ties, snaps, or nothing depending on your personal preference.

I stitched in place then moved on to sewing the flat sheet to my fabric piece.

I lined up the flat sheet which was hemmed already to my hemmed piece. Make sure you keep it inside out to hide the seam!

I pinned in place about 7 inches in on both corners, I left 1 inch unstiched on each corner. I then sewed to the top to seal off the side making a L shape.

Keeping the fabric inside out you will sew similar to the black lines above. Both sides will be sewn touching the bottom side and the bottom sewn together. Trim excess when finished.

For the open end I tucked in the corner and stitched inside out

Above is how I tucked it inside. Once you sew that, you're finished! It should look like a giant pillow case! The duvet is actually reversible: one side ikat and the other a crisp white. Now all you need to do is add a comforter inside and relax!

If you haven't notice my favorite color is blue, specifically turquoise. So you will understand how incredibly excited I was when I saw these pumps! They are the perfect color blue and the platform in the front is not ridiculously high! I wanted the bright blue to give a pop of color to a basic outfit. I added my favorite vintage necklace from my grandma to compliment the shoes, a knit white sweater, and some dark skinnies.

I scored a new lens today for a great deal; I was planning on saving for a different one but it was too good to pass up! The best part about buying new camera stuff is that it's as exciting as clothes shopping and Nick likes it too. Double win! I can't wait to practice and play around with it :)

It's 2012! First post of the year! Happy New Years :)

I decided a tuxedo blazer was the perfect New Years piece. It's fancy and fun! I paired it with liquid leggings and glitter pumps, the same ones from this DIY!

I've never really done New Years resolutions buuuut this year I'm focusing on my spiritual health. Every day I want to seek God's favor and show others the same grace He shows me.

Along with that maybe a yoga or pilates class every now and then :)

They are a little fancier than RayBans and I dig em :)

Nick surprised me with a city date on Friday. I really enjoy just going to the city, we used to live like 10 minutes away and I kinda miss it! I love to go to coffee shops and coffee in general (Shout out to Erin from Captivated by Grace who enjoys coffee as much as me!) so we stopped at a popular place called Blue Bottle. Yuuummm. When we left Nick snapped some fashion pictures before part two of our little date! I layered up because I'm not crazy about wearing big coats, so I wore my incredibly warm leather leggings and a few different shirts, added my mega huge tote and my rose gold watch for some bling :)

Later we went on a sunset/twilight cruise. It was really nice just to relax, sip wine, and listen to live music. It was also an amazing way to end a crazy week of finals!

I wore this to class today, it was my hardest final and finally over! Pheew.
I got this tweed jacket last week. I saw it at TJMaxx a month ago and passed on it, when I went back it was on the clearance rack in my size! I was excited especially since it's Cynthia Rowley and only $15. I really like the way it flares out at the bottom, the back is pleated and adds a fancy look. I paired it with some dark jeans, suede pumps, a scarf and sweater for extra warmth.

Today was cold. California cold= jacket and the occasional hat. I can't complain! Today I wore a hat from my mother in-law. Thanks Mary! I didn't wear hats much before but this one is so cozy, warm and not the slightest bit itchy so I'm a big fan. I added my favorite dollar flats, some dark skinny jeans, and a nice flowy blouse with a little button detailing. I've wanted a brown leather jacket for quite awhile now. I found this one a few months back at Platos for $11. I was so excited aaaand it was already broken in for me :)

My mom and I found this beautiful spot right off the freeway today. It had such pretty lighting with a really nice tree too! I decided to celebrate Friday and the weekend before finals by busting out a sequin tunic. Sequins make me happy :) I got this tunic a while back on Ebay and haven't worn it because I needed to figure out the perfect outfit for it! I paired it with leather paneled leggings, my favorite booties, a simple black blazer and accessorized with rose gold and sparkly bracelets.

Sorry for my lack of posts lately, finals are right around the corner and I'm a busy lady! This is what I wore to school for my last day of lectures. I like to dress a little nicer for school; I've always been that way ever since I was little. I got this top this weekend at H&M. What drew me to it was the classic look of the black and cream, and the fact that it can be dressed up or down. The only downside is that it's polyester and makes my hair staticy, but it was ten dollars so I can't complain :)

This wind is crazy! I did my hair this morning and put it up once I got home from my blog pictures. I decided to wear this jacket layered over a thick sweater. Sometimes my classrooms get cold and sitting in a bulky jacket is uncomfortable, so layering is key. These are my go-to boots for this season. I'm saying this because I've posted them multiple times already and feel like I need to explain myself. Hah! Seriously though, these bad boys are all weather boots that go with anything, of course I'm going to wear them 24/7 :)

I decided to try out a red lipstick I got last week. I've always really liked the look of it...on someone else! I had a few surgeries on my lip which left a decent scar, so my lips are uneven. Needless to say red lipstick has always been intimidating for me. But today I went for it! I thought it brought out the red on the scarf too :) The wind was crazy when we were taking pictures, so don't mind my disheveled outfit and crazy hair!

Doesn't my scarf looks like a familiar print?! Well it's from Walmart and cost a whopping $2!

You don't need to spend a bunch to look cute! Thrifty shopping is the best shopping in my book :)

Have you ever had one of those mornings where everything you try on just doesn't work? Ok that happens to me about 4 times a week. No joke! So about 5 outfits into the madness I came up with a brilliant idea, steal Nick's clothes! I grabbed a button-up with fall colors and voila! I didn't want it to seem like I stole my husband's shirt, so I added a cardigan and cuffed over the sleeves. It gave a more fitted look, at least to me it did :) Poor Nick, I'll be raiding his closet allll the time now!

I was excited to wear these shoes! They remind me of the Gucci bamboo horsebit style. I snagged these flats for $1.50 at the thrift store. They are comfy and add a pop of color to the outfit!

I'm starting my countdown till the semester is finished! Only a few weeks left until thick cozy socks and sleeping in! Well, maybe just the thick cozy socks :) I'm really excited to do some DIY projects over break. It's my favorite hobby but it's tough to do during the school year because I'm busy with homework. So during my winter break be prepared for a overload of crafts. Who doesn't love crafts though?!

I participated in the Black Friday madness at midnight for the first time and last time ever! It was insane. I was expecting a line, but not one that wrapped completely around the outside of Target. And what was I seeking: a new TV, fancy game system, or camera? Noooooo nooo! A leather jacket! I'm completely lame but successful nonetheless.
I wore this outfit on my last day of school before Thanksgiving break. I really like this blazer; it was big on me so I tailored it to fit me perfectly :) I think tweed is so classic, especially in black and white. I added a brooch I got for my wedding bouquet to dress it up! Let me just say, you will be seeing this blazer again soon!

I have been wanting leather pants since sixth grade. I wish I was lying...but I'm not! When I was in sixth grade, all the girls in my class were wearing leather pants and I wanted them so bad! My mom refused, no way was she letting her sixth grade daughter wear leather or pleather pants. Needless to say I've been daydreaming about them all these years and finally came across a lovely pair :)
My little brother Anthony was my photographer today and we had to find the perfect spot. We drove all over, finally a hour later we found this field with a pretty view of the hills nearby!

The leaves are finally beginning to fall here, so I decided to break out my autumn scarf. It's cozy, soft, and only cost a dollar! I wore it two different ways, the first one is my favorite. My neck was so warm!

Perfect for when it starts to get colder. I paired it with a cream chunky knit sweater (Valentina's!) and a fun cuff. I wanted this cuff when it first came out but it was $20, and I couldn't justify spending that much on a bracelet. So I waited...and waited. Finally clearance! Booya! Just cost a little more than a fancy coffee :)

Also by baby sister Audrianna turned 1 this weekend, so I glammed up a simple white button-up for her!

I wore this outfit because I've been wanting to wear this skirt, it's lace and I fell in love with it! I added some tights, my go to pumps and my favorite chiffon top :)

Now I'm getting ready for Thanksgiving. I'm going to make Two Layer Pumpkin Cheesecake and Apple Crisp. Forget turkey and stuffing, I'm all about dessert! YUM!

I have seriously been waiting a year to wear this vest. I scored it for $14 and whenever I tried to wear it, it just never seemed right. Finally! I paired it with a cream tunic to cover my bum and some comfy leggings. I couldn't figure out what jewelry to wear, then realized that it would be competing with the fringe so I opted out and accessorized with a purse. I thought the gold hardware on my Chanel bag would be perfect!

I really like twirling in this vest. But I can't do that in public, unless it's for blog pictures :)

These jeans are so comfy and my new favorite brand. It's hard for me to find the perfect pair and every single pair of Rich & Skinny jeans I try on always fit me like a glove! I have a few pairs and love them! Plus they aren't too expensive, especially second-hand. It's not a popular name so they're usually priced low :)

So I finally learned how to take the date stamp off my pictures, but it was after I took these. Boo!

I wore top because it's surprisingly warm and the weather has been cool lately. I got it at a boutique in town a few years back, it was on mega clearance and such a score! I've probably worn this 30 times so I'd say I got my moneys worth :)
